I'm having this problem in a Windows 2000 Machine with Service Pack 1 and IE5. It has an Intel 815 Chipset Sound Card and the sound plays like if it has been fast forwarded, like the chipmunks. It even plays regular CD's with the chipmunks effect, even though Digital CD playback is not enabled.

I have checked for hardware conflicts, and there are none. I have also slided the hardware acceleration bar back and forth, and the sound is still the same.

What could be causing this chipmunk effect to happen????
PLEASE HELP!!!

Thanks anticipated.

We have a number of Intel 815-based machines that had this problem. They had the Soundmax cards integrated into the motherboard. An updated Soundmax driver fixed the problem.

I agree with tazsk8s. I had the same problem. The solution was to get the latest and greatest drivers.

This has many characteristics of a driver issue. Does Devcice Manager show a Microsoft or an Intel driver being used ?

If this is an onboard sound card have you checked the motherboard manufacturer's site to see if there are any updated drivers ?

Have you tried updating your Service Pack version (you should backup your existing files when prompted during the update) ?
