Cheers Geoff - I'm keeping my fingers crossed, but am not at work for a few days now, and am not sure if it works whilst I'm not logged in to the server. Tried earlier but no joy, so will have to try hooking up to work later - wasn't sure if i'd followed the instructions correctly though.

Oh yes - Couch potato for a few days - that's me. Kids are off for half term so it's films and McDonalds and Takeaways and playing silly games :)

That's when I'm not on my laptop doing this of course :)

LOL - happy days !!

ps - what do you reckon to someone (ie me) setting up an "Office Developers" forum with an emphasis on excel (as a private group like TTUK etc)

Would it get enough contributors ??

Hi Giz - well I'm certainly thinking seriously about doing it but I don't really know if there is a call for it here as most of the developers tend to answer questions rather than ask...

From one point of view I'd think setting up such a forum would be useful ie from the conceptual point of view

But from the "How do I get this code to work?" point of view the VBA forum would cover it??

As for most of the developers answering rather than asking questions I wouldn't worry about that. If there's somewhere to ask the questions that don't really fit into the VBA forum then it's worth it.

I know I may have some questions more to do with the planning of projects rather than the actual development. If I actually get to do something like that. Ever.....

How do I get the best answers?

you Excel guys....harumph....."Office Developers"....with an emphasis on Excel......sniff....poor little Word...lost in the wilderness.

Gerry

ok, ok - Excel is my baby - Word can join in as well - just wanted to make the point that Access is well covered in this area - tell you what, we'll make it a "Non Access Developers (but if you want to interact with Access from another app that's ok) Forum" !!

(lets see how many outraged Access developers join this now ;-) )

Hmmm - What's this 'Word' thing?? Is that the new name for notepad or what is it?? <g>

Aaarrrgh. You guys just work with bloody numbers, and the only reason you need Excel is that you have not enough fingers and toes. Just kidding of course. We all need those numbers, especially if they have dollar signs in front of them...

As for WP, as much as I like Word, I long for the days when we had WordPerfect 5.1 for DOS. Macro writing was a pain, but frankly things have not changed all that much. 90% of users still just write memos and letters and never use a tiny fraction of what Word (later versions) can do. I personally do, but after 10 years of trying to train users to properly use Styles (even trying to FORCE them into using them....hahahahahahaha) - as much as things change, things (or thingys) remain the same. Imagine a word processor whose executable is less than 400K. Hahahahahaha.

Anyway guys, you keep playing with those bizarre wee formulae that go on and on and on and on with parenthesis after parenthesis, blah blah blah. I will go on with my:

UCase(Left(Left(myLogonName, (InStr(myLogonName, 0, “.”) – 1)), 1) & Right(Left(myLogonName, (InStr(myLogonName, 0, “.”) – 1)), Len(Left(myLogonName, (InStr(myLogonName, 0, “.”) – 1)) – 1))

blah blah blah

PowerPoint? Isn't that some sort pilates thingy?

Gerry

Geoff - Think it sounds great by the way. I think It's quite different to have somewhere to float things like that with a bunch of regulars vs doing it in open forum.

I would not qualify for the private Excel Wizards

forum, but no offense taken. My own terribly selfish concern is whether your very talented cadre would still be available to help the rest of us...

Another thought - should Outlook have it's own forum? There seem to be an awful lot of Outlook questions, and, no offense to anyone, but they look out of place among the Excel, Access and Word questions. I like the idea of a forum for those three Office apps because they seem to me to be the ones most likely to be tied together.

Just two cents from a guy with a penny.

THanks,
Tim

P.S. - best wishes on the new forum!

Tim - it would be intended that any Office Developers forum would be in ADDITION to the current fora but would create an area where, in general, more complex questions are asked and answered that relate to VBA development of MSOffice products
