I have assembled 2 pcs whose components are exactly same.
Once of them is working fine but another is not.
Its
Gigabyte Motherboard
Intel Cel 3ghz cpu
256mb RAM
40gb HD

When i switch on this pc, a fan spins but nothing comes on the screen. I have tested the cpu, memory,hd in other pc, and it works.

Is motheroard faulty?

Reassemble the non-working machine on the workbench would be my advice, you may have a short or a bad connection, bad PSU, floppy power keyed one pin off ...

Im testing with only motherboard, CPU+FAN, Memory.

PSU works with other pc.

Not much else to try - reset the CMOS, ensure you have the CPU fitted correctly, fan connected correctly, power connections fully seated, swap RAM then swap CPU from the other machine?

All the instructions by SATROW has been done.

Can it be motherboard faulty? AS CPU, MEM, PSU works with other PC.

Assuming the CMOS jumper isn't shorted (I doubt it), thn yes I would suspect the motherboard is defective.

Carlsberg don't run I.T departments, but if they did they'd probably be more fun.

I had a similar problem with an ASRock motherboard with a P4 541 (3.2GHz). The power switched on and the fan of the cpu and the chassis started to work but in somewhat lower RPM than usual but nothing on the screen.

I finally found out that the external USB connectors of the chassis were quite old (USB 1.1) and somehow messed up with the USB 2.0 connectors of the mainboard.

As soon as I completely unpluged this cable the PC started to boot normally.

It def seems like the MoBo is having a problem, but it could just be some sort of - shall we say pickyness - in the compatibility of some component CPU/Memory/ even PSU

I don\'t suppose you have a port 80h / debug card.

Do you have a PS/2 keyboard or a USB keyboard? If you have a PS/2 keyboard and you power the system on can you get the numlock or capslock or scroll lock LED to cycle? (by cycling the corrisponding key)

Have you tried an off-board video card? Because you haven\'t mentioned one, I am assuming you are using on-board video.

A very long shot - possibly the reset switch on the case is stuck in the reset position?
