Failure to use Smtp for email notification

I have been trying to set up email notification using smtp but its not working for some strange reason. I can use mapi and forward emails but i would appreciate if somebody could tell me what might be the problem with smtp.

I had no trouble to set de smtp settings in CIM 7. Just gave de IP-adress for de SMTP host mail server and it worked. Does the host has the smtp availble??
