My system: AMD Athlon xp2200+, xp pro, 512 + 256 DDR RAM pc333mhz, KT400 AGP8* mobo, 80gb Wetern digital 8MB cache hard drive.

Upon loading windows xp pro, the xp load screen appears but then instead of the log on screen appearing, a blue screen pops up. The blue screen says the following:
Technical information: *** STOP: 0*00000050 (0*F77B94AB, 0*00000000, 0*F77B94AB, 0*00000000)
FILE ERROR: PartMgr.sys
ADDRESS: F77B94AB base at F77B7000
DATESTAMP 00000000

I have no idea what this technical info means but if anyone could help I would be v.grateful. I think I have issue with my hard disk because when I scanned the hard disk the xp scandisk program got stuck after scanning 97% of the 'security descriptors' section. After reformating my pc works temporarily but eventually after installing a few drivers etc it always gives the blue screen.

All help welcomed
thanks,

There's a few possibilities here Most have to do with hardware or drivers. Have you installed any new hardware or drivers lately? You might also want to check your RAM - if you have multiple sticks, use only one at at time to see if one is the culprit.

thanks smah,
I will try that..
Ill get back to u asap
If anyone else has anyother ideas.. just go ahead and say

tried using just one memory stick, tired using 512 on its own aswell as 256 but the stop screen still appears.
Im still thinking that there are serious problems with my harddrive possibly.

Any ideas ?

I doubt if it's the hard drive. A driver problem is much more likely.

How do i find out which driver etc tho. Its very confusing, I have reformatted many times and the same error occurs but at various times, never after installing a certain driver. The most recent time it occured was after installing direct x 9 drivers.

hi,
I have run into the same proble 3 or 4 times. I did the following and it worked every time.

*Boot up on your XP Pro disk
*Choose Repair
*At the command propmt type chkdsk and press enter
*This will repair any errors and just boot up normal.

I just did this yesterday for a business.

Hope it helps you.

chrz onemotime... yeah me m8 did that once an it worked after ..
I have recently reformated (again)
and im glad to say pc is working fine ..
however i havent installed any graphics drivers yet..
Apparently many radeon 9700 pro graphics card owners have experienced a similar problem as me and it appears that the latest ATI catalyst drivers etc are dodgy ..
Apparently the most recent ones that ATI released that are stable are vers.3.1 but I will check on this b4 i install any graphics drivers. Due to the fact that pc seems ok without havin installed graphics drivers I presume that the graphics drivers wer causin the partmgr.sys errors etc

Thx all,
All advice/comments welcomed
