A bit of a novice at all this so please bare with me.

I have 2 ASA5505 with security+ licences.

I have setup failover on both devices using the following commands-
failover
failover lan unit primary
failover lan interface failover Vlan111
failover interface ip failover 192.168.255.1 255.255.255.0 standby 192.168.255.2

However when I do a "show failover" I get this-
asa-live(config)# show failover
Failover On
Failover unit Primary
Failover LAN Interface: failover Vlan111 (down)
Unit Poll frequency 1 seconds, holdtime 15 seconds
Interface Poll frequency 5 seconds, holdtime 25 seconds
Interface Policy 1
Monitored Interfaces 3 of 250 maximum
Version: Ours 7.2(4), Mate Unknown
Last Failover at: 12:25:21 GMT/BST Mar 4 2009
This host: Primary - Active
Active time: 9639 (sec)
slot 0: ASA5505 hw/sw rev (1.0/7.2(4)) status (Up Sys)
Interface inside (192.168.50.1): Normal (Waiting)
Interface outside (coloapp03-ext): Normal (Waiting)
slot 1: empty
Other host: Secondary - Not Detected
Active time: 0 (sec)
slot 0: empty
Interface inside (192.168.50.2): Unknown (Waiting)
Interface outside (xxx.xxx.45.43): Unknown (Waiting)
slot 1: empty

Not suree if this is important but I can ping 192.168.50.2 from the secondary device but I can't ping 192.168.50.1 on the primary. So I'm thinking there appears to be a communication problem. Please help anybody!!

This really should be posted in the ASA forum. When you post it over there include configs from both devices and also a crude physical drawing if possible detailing how you have the devices connected to the network.

I hate all Uppercase... I don't want my groups to seem angry at me all the time! =)

Don't worry sorted..
"Failover LAN Interface: failover Vlan111 (down)"
should have been a clue that I had pluged the failover cable into the wrong ethernet port. Stupid me.
