Here's the scenario, I have 2 Pcs running WinME both have a NIC each, connected to a Speedstream(2005)5port Hub,connected to a Speedstream(2601)Router,connected to a Speedstream(5360)ADSL Modem. As the Docs Read, after configuration of the PCs' Network Attributes,I'm Suppose to be able to start my web browser and type in the address and see a Home Page. NOT! Each PC connects to the Net on it's own, they connect to each other using only the hub. So I know my Problem lies in the Router's setup in the PCs.So my question is there something in windows that either I'm not configuring properly and what and where would it be? And is there some kind of NAT Program I should be using in WindowsME or Should I fork over the $50 bucks to buy One To end my Troubles? and which one do you suggest for this configuration? Your help is very much Appreciated Randy G. gonzor@ameritech.net Thank You!

I am not a PC/Windows expert, but are they set to get an address automatically from a DHCPserver? do they get an adress in the pattern 192.168.0.n where n is from 2 to 255? I tried to remain child-like, all I acheived was childish.

goobis,

What do you mean each PC connects to the Net on its own? Are you referring to the internet or the network? Are there other connection types on the PC's?

If the router is configured properly, it should have a DHCP server running. Each of the PC's should be receiving their IP addresses automatically from the router. If they have, they will have an address in the range of 192.168.0.x. YOu can check this by doing Start > Run > winipcfg and checking the IP address assigned to the NIC. I believe with WinME, you can also open a DOS prompt and type "ipconfig /all" without the quotes to display the information. If the computers are not getting the IP addresses from the router, you need to configure them to do so or set static addresses in the proper range (192.168.0.x). If you are setting static addresses, make sure the default gateway is set to the router's address (192.168.0.1).

When set up this way, your browser should be able to open the web interface through the hub to the router's configuration.

If you can post back the results of winipcfg or the ipconfig command, we can provide further guidance.

Hope that helps.

Thanks for your feedback Guys, 346, to answer your 1st ? I meant the Internet(Each Pc connected to the DSL/Modem standing alone worked fine). But what I failed to do,was Delete the Software that came with DSL(Enternet 300)and use only the Speedstream 2601 Config Page that was on the disk that came with the Router to enter the internet.I used your advice on using winipcfg and found all the settings I needed to get it to work, and it did! The only thing now is to have the Other PC,link with Mine and have both on the Internet and share files and printer. This Other PC has AOL so,I'm Still working on that! There's a configuration specifically for that. Also I have to use PPPoe to enter the Internet for Sign On purposes. As for other connection types,I meant, should I be using Winpoet or Winroute Pro to use in place of Entenet 300 that came from Ameritech,to get online.Anyway I'm still working on it.Also I've found while connected to the router on line,I get a lot of Popups coming up,and it hangs up a few times while surfing.Nothing Fatal, but it stops the flow of things. any suggestions? Thanks Randy G. gonzor@ameritech.net

goobis,

Glad to hear you have made progress. From this point, I suggest you do the following:
- Make sure the router is configured for PPPoE and let the router handle signing-on and maintaining the DSL line. It does it very well. You will need to configure it with your user ID and password and make sure it is set to keep the connection "alive".
- Completely remove all ISP software from the computers. You will no longer need to "sign-on" to access the internet. The router is doing that for you. You do not need Enternet, WinRoute or WinPoet.
- Configure the computers to get their IP addresses from the router. Set the TCP/IP properties to obtain address automatically. This will ensure you get a good address and the current DNS server addresses. It will also ensure the router is set as the default gateway.

As for the AOL connection, change the configuration to NOT dial but use the ISP/LAN access method. You will still connect to AOL as if it is a dial-up but it will do so through the router. By the way, you can change your billing arrangement to a "Bring Your Own Access" basis which is less expensive.

As far as sharing over the network, just make sure
- Each computer has a unique name.
- Each computer has "File and Printer Sharing" installed in the Network control panel and the sharing is enabled.
- The workgroup name in each computer is EXACTLY the same.
- Something (a folder, file, etc.) is shared on each computer.
That should do it for you.

Good luck.
