I'm having an odd problem. I''m running ArcServe 2000 Advanced Edition(SP4). Last week I had some problems with my backups because some firewall work was being done. Those problems have since been resolved, but I have a makeup job that is "running" and cannot be stopped. When I try to stop it, I recieve the message "Failed to stop this job." and nothing more. Selecting the properties of the job only shows the name, no other statistics. The job log for the job shows that it got as far as an Exchange mailbox and stopped. I don't know if the mailbox is the problem, but regardless, shouldn't I be able to stop the job somehow? Has anyone seen something like this before, or, does someone know some other way to remove a job from the job queue? Thanks.

Looks like I fixed my own problem. I was able to remove the job after going in to the 00000001.qsd folder and rename the corresponding files.

fyi ----there is a hotfix that is supposedly for this it's a microsoft problem i don't remember the number but the problem is in your event viewer you probably have a 7031 or something like that. it' the rpc flapping. but they also say they will get a fix for it in next service pack but I haven't updated to 3 yet.

With regard to:

I am a novice network admin, and have had the same described problem. I have always had to uninstall and reinstall the application entirely.

Is this folder "00000001.qsd" something I can just rename without messing up the application?

Thanks in advance for your advice.

gabu - The folder is located under the working directory of Arcserve. You'll see in the folder a few files named 0000000X.LOG where X is the number of the job in the Arcserve queue. Open Arcserve, stop the Job engine, and then rename (or delete) the corresponding 0000000X.LOG file. There may be a file called 0000000X.CHK, as well, you'll have to rename or delete that, too. I don't think deleting the folder would be a good idea, as this is your job queue - I don't know if you can simply recreate it or if you would have to reinstall the app. Good luck.

Iv'e applied that but it's not the whole story. This also happens on a server that's up and working fine. That the issue that CA blames on Microsoft of the RPC flapping (not being available all the time) Supposed to be out with MS next OS service Pack.
