Failed status when updating the Symantec Antivirus for SMTP gateway

Hi,

When I try to download the latest database definitions using the button attached in the pages download. It was not successful and returned error message: "Failed" Could not connect to Liveupdate Server.

Pls advise. tk u.

I ran into this problem. There are two things you can do:

Reinstall Liveupdate from the Symantec website, which MIGHT work.

OR

Do what I should have done and get rid of Norton and install AVG Antivirus (it doesn't cost a thing to download or update and it works better):

free.grisoft.com

That error is very common with Norton. When it does that, you might as well forget about it.

I noticed that some of the services are disabled and also local security settings, there could be some restrictions. But i need to zoom into which services are needed.

Anyone can advise?

I had this problem with Norton 360 and found the solution at Symantec (

It was pretty straightforward and worked the first time.
