Hi there,

I have Arcserve v9 and I am trying to solve an issue with a remote SQL server, it has been working and has stopped, it will backup drives and system state etc, but when it comes to the SQL server datbases it comes back with:

[05/21/2004-15:12:26 ,0,0,0,0,0,2,1,0,0] E8604
[05/21/2004-15:12:26 ,0,0,0,0,0,2,1,0,0] Failed to start backup. (DBNAME=dbasql@MSSQLSERVER, EC=BABBAGE:ErrorMsg = [Microsoft][ODBC SQL Server Driver][SQL Server]Login failed for user '(null)'. Reason: Not associated with a trusted SQL Server connection. SQLState = 28000 nativerr=18452)
[05/21/2004-15:12:28 ,0,0,0,0,0,2,1,0,0]

Anybody got any idea's what's happening, I have checked the username and password, they seem fine, I can expand on the datbases in backup manager and reconfirmed the U/N and P/W on the security check box when submitting the job, but still no success.

ck the SQL error log and try a search on the MS site for error 18452.

You may need to uninstall and reinstall the sql agent.

You do not need to reinstall the agent!

The problem is due to how you are performing the backup. Username = null means that you are selecting the entire machine for backup. Older versions of BAB 9 didn't support this; it would not save the credentials for SQL Server.

There is a patch on the web (patch 5 should have it) that allows you to perform a full machine backup and still be able to specify a username and password for SQL Server. You'll need to apply patch 5 and then recreate your backup job. Make sure to specify credentials for the SQL Server agent.
