I've hit problems when re-installing XP Home SP1.
Firstly, the install kept freezing with 34 minutes to go and through reading the threads here - I realised the USBHUB.sys issue was my problem. Having had several unsuccessful attempts to resolve it, I thought I'd add a new install of XP alongside so I could at least boot up and backup before wiping the HD and starting from scratch.
However, I can't access the user folders from my old (failed) install when I'm logged on to my working install - I get access denied. I understand why I can't do this, but I'd really like to get around it so I can copy the files, back them up and rebuild. Has anyone got a way that I can 'logon' to these accounts from my other install?
For interest, my failed install appears to start XP, but I get a black screen with a working mouse cursor. When I start this install in safe mode, I get a black screen with a working mouse and 'safe mode' written in the corners. Obviously, if I can get this install back working, it would save me a lot of grief! Any advice gratefully received.
