i recently downloaded and installed an upgrade to my alcatel usb adsl modem software...previously v 1.615 was working just fine...the install of v2.01 initially went well with the softwaqre side of the install completing ok...the next stage was to plug in the modem...this starts the plug and play element of the install...this failed with the hardware wizard saying error failed to find the specified file, on both the mode and the ppp plug and play...this would result in a permanent loop....so i unplugged the modem...i have removee 2.01 and reinstalled 1.615 and now that version (previousky working just fine) gives me the same error....have installed 1.615 on my portable and it installed just fine....

...way to solve?

1)compare portable install with failed install on pc...
how?
or
2)reinstall windows....loses all my c drive stuff...how to keep it?

really really p....off....have spent hours trying to figure a fix and spoken with alcatel support ...helpful but no fix they suggested i remove networking and reinstall
how?

and then suggest wipe and reinstall windows.....

any bright ideas ?????

please help

Completely remove the device and all associated drivers from your system. If you feel adventurous, edit the registry to remove all references to that modem and software as well.
(Be sure to back up the registry before hacking it up! You don't want it to [bomb]in your face.) Also, remove all networking connections. Finally, remove all USB connections as well. These will get rebuilt during PnP sensing on reboot.

Reboot the system without the modem installed to make sure everything is working fine. Then reinstall the modem as if it were a new installation, and set up your network connectoids.

Sorry it didn't work. We've all had this once in a while. Glad the software is getting better so we don't have to do it as often.
