Sybex was ok, I am looking at Cisco press now.

Sad to hear that you F-up the exam :-(
But now you know what to focus on, hope you do
better on your next try.
Thanks for sharing this with us.

Thanks

It was my fault I fup the simulator ACL, forgot ip access-list 101 permit ip any any

So right there was about 100 points LOL Ouch!!!

It was my first certification test ever.

I read so much on Frame-relay that my brain hurts, simulator suck, this is where experince comes in handy and I have never worked with Frame-relay before.

So next time I will pass I have no doubt in my mind.

Hi Anddmx,

I'm planning to take CCNA 640-801.
But I am very new to it.
can you suggest which book to read?
How to prepare for the lab simulator..?
etc..

Thanks in advance.

I finally passed.

I used Sybex CCNA book and used the software simulator with the book.

I also used Boson to get ready but it didnt help to much.

I cant really help you out anymore then that, even if you fail dont give up it took me 3 times to pass.

Take your time with the questions

I've asked everyone I know in IT and I went to every website I could find & the most frequently named book is the Cisco Library - Cisco Press. It contains 2 books. One is Intro To Cisco, and the other book is Interconnecting Cisco Networking Devices (ICND). It includes Boson's RouterSim. I think the cost of the Library is $58.95. You can do an internet search and find a used copy for under $35. I just got the set myself and it's content is VERY impressive so far.
Good luck.

Thanks to Anddmax & mrgizmo for your suggestions.
I heard sybex book is more exam oriented, consise than the cisco press one. Is that correct? I just want to pass easily.....

I would HIGHLY recommend the Cisco Press books. The easiest way to pass a test is to know and understand the content, not just learning the quirks of the test. However, that being said I used the Sybex and Cisco Press books when I studied for it and passed with over a 950. The Sybex gives you a good overview and intro into the subjects but if you really want to learn the material and understand it indepth then I would recommend using hte Cisco Press books.

Let me know if this helps

Sorry about the Fup. This is my first Cert test and I am just getting into the middle of my studies and have a few questions...

I was wondering what the test is actually like? I understand there is a Sim portion, are the sim questions intermixed with regular questions or partioned off?

Does the test change much within the times you have taken it? Does the focus change alot or only a little?

Thanks alot. Sorry if these questions sound stupid but I think they could be helpful in my test prep.

tottally bent

not stupid at all.

the sims are intermixed in. you wont know when you are going to get them.

the specific questions will be quite different each time you take the test, but the overall subject matter/concepts are the same of course.

the test will 'focus' on any area you are weak in. by that i mean it's a 'smart' test. if you get a one or more wrong on a certain topic, it will ofcus more questions on that topic. makes me think of sharks in bloody water! lol

ccna to expire at the end of the year, if i take one CCNP exam will it validate my ccna and prevent it from expiring and if so what is the recommended, when studying i find the material on switching to be the easiest, but i work in troubleshooting WAN connectivity so I am thinking about remote access exam, can anyone recommend????
