Hi Everyone:

I was hoping to get some help here.
In the past two months I've tested three times and failed all.
My first test score was 750
My second and third where exactly the same..799 (804 is passing)
Does this mean I shouldn't do Networking?
What makes this so devastating is that I took Cisco classes (the teacher was horrible) and even have a degree in Networking. I'm also Net+ certified.
I bought CCENT/CCNA material from Cisco Networking
I have 5 switches and 4 routers in my lab.
I don't get it...
My lowest grade is on section Implement small switched network.

Please - any advise will be greatly appreciated

HA! Only if you don't want to! Listen. I failed the CCNA 3 times.......BEFORE I PASSED. Cisco exams are known for being evil. Don't let a silly test decide if your right for networking or not. If its what you love to do then just commit to it and keep going. Some people can just read the book once study a bit and go pass the test. I personally bought the cisco press books (odom), boson simulator, and a physical lab. I had to read that book 6 times, do all the labs boson had, and then use the physical lab for stuff boson wouldn't do. I could quote the book from memory by the time I was done. I made like a 975 when I finally passed... My first 3 attempts were just about what your making. I find the more you spend with the lab the easier it gets. Know the book but know the equipment and be comfortable with it. Your situation is almost the same as mine was at one time. My degree.....cis/networking...I even went to the CCNA academy.....Net+?...got it. My advice to you is don't give up....Just keep grinding away at it. Take a small break and then re read all the material..(maybe a different book) Use the tester in the back of the Cisco books and take it on test simulation mode....make it exactly like the test. Being able to do it in a timely manner is crucial. When you miss questions figure out why and study those things that will help you to pass them next time around. When you pass those test consistently with better than about 92% then your ready. Keep at it......you'll pass..most of us have been there at some point.

Don't let it get you down. The exams are tough. I hate to think how many exams I've failed over the years. One thing I always do before I start preparing for a test, is I start reading reviews for the books I intend to read. Make certain you are getting the "good stuff." Some authors are better than others. I am a fan of Odom, but not necessarily the CCNA material he puts together. Todd Lammle is another great author, especially when it comes to the CCNA level material.

I also like to use the exam outlines from Cisco's website as kind of a study guide. Granted it s very generalized, but it can help to start plot a course on what to study.

Practice, practice, practice. Lots of things you can practice, whether it is subnetting, lab time, etc. One thing I did, especially at the CCNA level was practice writing down some of the notes I wanted to have right at my finger tips before I even started the exam. Best description is my own personal brain dump. I'd even practice writing it out randomly so I could know I had it all there. Seems strange, but you don't want to have a brain fart in the middle of the exam and lose valuable time.

Cisco exams aren't designed for civilians to pass (it took me 4 years to get my CCNA) but Lord have mercy, when you do, your life changes instantly. I am not in networking for the money, I enjoy doing it plus it's always a challenge, I don't care what certification you have. I can help you pass. I just recerted my CCNA in May so it's still fresh. E-mail me at ludoggg@hotmail.com and I will assist you just like someone assisted me.

Hi

As many other have said......get back on the horse...

Did you have any timing issues?
I found that I spent too much time on the subnetting
questions as I had not got subnetting down in my head -
I was therefore doing all the calculations on paper.
That's too time consuming - you need to knock off those
subnetting question in about 4 minutes.

They are tough exams - they want quality people employed
by companies as Cisco give incentives to companies who
take on certified employees. You should stick at it -
once you pass (and you will) it will open up a new
and exciting world for employment.

good luck

I passed the CCENT the first time but got smoked on the CCNA (740). I took the Cisco Academy classes at the local community college. I've been "taking a break" for 4 months. You just inspired me to start studying again because Cisco VoIP is the future of my 30 year telecommunicatiobns trade. This is doable...
