I am creating flv files for someone else to incorporate into swf containers. I'm very new to Flash and not a programmer. They want the movie clips to fade from white at beginning and fade to white at end. Is this best accomplished (and can it be?) when creating the swf, or should I do these fades when creating the original movie clips that I then convert to flv files? I've tried doing the fades in my NLE and then converting to flv and notice the fades look slightly ratty in Flash, wondering if they'd look better if created when making the swf containers.

Thanks for the response. NLE is non-linear-editor (in this case Final Cut Pro). I'm using Flix Pro to encode flv files and it doesn't appear to give me the option of fading to/from WHITE. Do you know for a fact that programs creating the swf have that ability? Thanks!

Do you mean Flash? Yes. But if you're streaming your FLV dynamically, then it can be a bit tricky. If you embed your video in Flash timeline, the fading effect is easy to apply.

Or do it in FCP and play with Flix settings to get the better results.
