F40 without network connectivity

I have a F40 RS/6000 that i have loaded AIX 4.3.3 on.
From the dumb terminal I can ping itself, but not the default gateway.
I have en0 configured with the correct ip, subnet, and gateway. et0 is down with nothing setup. I am plugged into the cat 5 port on the back of the system and the port is setup for half 10.

I am looking for any help in diagnosing the problem, or ideas.

April 24th?, you've probably sorted this now, but I think that the first things I would do is put a PC or another RS on a local hub on the same address range and try pinging eachother. If this doesn't work then replace all the Cat5 with cable that you know work. If this doesn't work, then I'd start to suspect the network card.
As an after thought you could try two PC's (or RS's) on the same hub set up and if they work, get the engineer.
:)
