Have a question on an older DL360 that we are trying to use. I thought you might have seen this before.

It is a Dual PIII 800

When it boots up it puts a message on the screen like this:

601 – Diskett Controller Error

Then it says:

Compaq Integrated Smart Array Controller v 1.42

Press F1 to continue

Press F10 for system setup

It will sit there until I push F1 to make it boot up into windows. Have you seen this before?

If so, what do I need to do to make it automatically boot up?

Thanks,
Frank

In the BIOS there is an option (on G2 and newer servers) to disable the F1 prompt, not sure about this model though.

-------------------------------

If it doesn't leak oil it must be empty!!

It should still be in the bios on the older ones but sometimes is hidden.

1. Reboot the server
2. Press F10 to access the System Configuration Utility
3. Press any key to continue
4. Press <CTRL> A from the Main Menu
5. Press Enter
6. Choose "System Configuration"
7. Choose "Configure Hardware"
8. Choose "Review or modify hardware settings"
9. Choose "View or edit details"
10. Arrow down to Advance Features, highlight "F1 Boot Prompt", and press Enter
11. Select "Disable - skip prompt"
12. Press F10 for done
13. Save and exit

Might it be a good idea to find out why the server is bringing up this error? If you disable the F1 prompt, subsequent errors will also be missed!

The DL360 Hardware Maintenance manual suggests the following

601-Diskette Controller Error

Diskette controller circuitry failure

1. Make sure the diskette drive cables are attached.

2. Replace the diskette drive and/or cable.

3. Replace the system board.

If your hands haven't been inside lately I would check the diskette drive is still working. Otherwise you are up for a system board
