extreme networks summit 48 error

I have Extreme Networks Summit 48 switch and I'm getting loopback error on port #17. Is there anything can be done for that or is there a firmware update to fix this error. I had same problem with 3com switch firmware upgrade fixed it. Let me know what can be done.

what version are you on? I haven't seen that error on any of my summits, been using them for approx 4yrs. I'd contact extremes TAC.
 
My soft version in the switch is
boot version: 1.9
software version: 4.1.15

and exact error is :
The switch reports "diagnostic failed" when you power
it up. And in the logs it reports "port 17 failed
port transceiver loop back test"

Can anything be done with it or it's a loss.
 
It looks like you're on the current versions. Do you have a support contract with Extreme? If not I'd get one, you may be able to get the switch replaced, or they may be able to assist you with it. I have never come across that error msg.

How much would the contract cost from them. Would it be worth the units price and age ?
 
I'm not sure exactly, because they are in the process of reformatting their support, summit48 are end of life, so they were changing something like 500 canadian dollars/year. They received a lot of complainits, so they're apparently working on different levels of support. If it's a few hundred dollars, it's can't hurt, especially if you have tight budgets and you have to squeeze all the life out of equipment.
