Hello group,

First of all,I am very new to the Definity system. What I wanted to do is to exact the caller's information in this case caller's phone number or name at real time whenever a call comes. And then use the phone number as an input for another program. my questions are:

1)Are there any software modules( a component, not whole application) in the market that handles this?

2) how much work will it be to build a program to it?

One more thing, what is the best starting point for programming against the AVAYA Defiity system? any good pointer will be highly appreciated.

Thanks a lot,
-Sue

Sue,

To grab ANI (caller ID), the calls need to go into a system that can accept and act upon the ANI. If your exporting the ANI to an external program and acting upon it, you'll require some sort of CTI hardware and software. Your request is very general, and there are many options out there, so it isn't very easy to answer. Take a look at different IVR applications. Avaya products are generally easy to program and understand, but are costly.

If you're just starting in the world of Avaya, the best place to start is their support site and documentation. They have three basic programming books, which will start you on the right path. Follow the link below and look at:

- Avaya's Multi Vantage little instruction books (basic, advanced, and diagnostics).

Along with these books and the Administrators Manual and the Maintenance Manual, you should be in business.

Good Luck and Enjoy reading.

Hi Sue,

We have a component you can use to control calls and to monitor your VDN's and Skills. It can also handle route requests from the Definity/Multivantage.

The componen can be used with C++, Visual Basic, C#, ASP etc.

It does however require some additional hardware and software from Avaya:

You need either a MAPD card with CVLAN enabled on it

or

a MAPD card and Avaya Telephony Server software.

Multivantage are a bit different because some of them cant have a MAPD card attached. Those switches need only the Avaya Telephony Server.

Please send me an email and I will tell you more about this component. (rene@rbcdata.com)
