Extract date within word document?

Has anybody got any clues on how I would extract a date from within a word document, where it is not necessarily a standard format.

I want to be able to extract this date and then compare it with the metadata properties (created date, modified date and accessed date).

I think you have to start learning regular expressions. They were invented for problems like this. Just look in your help files or Google it and you'll get lots of hits.
