External voice mail message waiting 1

I have MICS 7.1 with a private line that has verizon voice
and I can't seem to get the message waiting light to com on.
 
I did enter the number in telo feature.
And I turned it on under termin and sets.
But it don't work.What is it that i'm missing?
 
I didn't know you can have external voicemail mail and have your set light up when you receive a message. Huh, must be new.
 
It's been around since early days of DR5 where it says Message for you....only the light was recent when the T series came out.

Does it say Message For You at least?



 
Curly - External meaning not a Startalk flash, NAM or Callpilot. How do you program a set to "light the lamp" when you receive an indication from an external voicemail? Where do you program what line the voicemail indicator will be coming in from? This will be great for customers that do not want to purchase a voicemail that connects to the Norstar.
 
The line must ring&appear on the set to get the indicator, and it must be a CLID trunk card
 
No the message for you does not come on.

And this has nothen to do with CALLER ID.
 
I think it needs to appear only, it reads from the stuttered dial tone and yes it has to do with caller ID because the message center phone number sends the signal, nortar then recognizes that number you programmed then sends the signal to the set. This may differ between Canada and the U.S..

In programming look for Ext Vmsg, option 9 / Admin in older software?.

External MWI has a few things you need to do to get it to work. first you have to have the local telco give you VMI (sometimes noted as FSK MWI) on the trunk that the mailbox is on. second since VMI is a bit of a data string that is normally associated with caller id you need to have a caller id trunk card on the trunk. third you will be programming the phone number of the external moicemail center under telco settings. and that line must be assigned to the set then under terminals and sets/telco features/feature assign/extl vmsg set: to Y.

the Visual Indicator is set by a short burst of Frequency Shifted Keying immediately after the message is left in the mailbox and is refreshed when a call comes in (as part of the CID String) and also when the line is hung up on by the ICS. the indicator is cleared in the same way.

If you put a butt set on the trunk and leave a message you should hear that short FSK Burst within a few seconds of leaving a message.

I didn't know the you need call ID for this to work but you may be right cause if looks like I programmed every thing right and it still don't work LOL
They don't have caller ID and they are to cheep to get it.
 
Sounds like a lot of work just to "light a lamp". Purchase a CP 100/150 to avoid the hassel.
 
You do not require Calling Line ID on the lines for the Message Waiting, you only require a CLID trunk card on the system for the line to terminate on. The CLID card is required to receive the FSK signal from the CO. A CLID card is required for CLASS services (US) or CMS services (Canada). Both Caller ID and Visual Message Waiting are these types of services.
