I have an external USB drive that worked well with my Windows 2000 Laptop, but then all of the sudden it stopped working and now I receive

The drivers for this device are not installed. (Code 28)

To reinstall the drivers for this device, click Reinstall Driver.

I have gone thru the steps of reinstalling the drivers , but this problem continues.

Has anyone had a problem like this?

I have run into this with other devices, not an External drive. Try going into device manager and deleting under the "Universal Serial Bus Controllers" section. Then restart you machine and let Windows find them. That might work. Let me know.
