Have installed an Adaptec Ultra320 scsi card in Dell PowerEdge 4400 server. Card reports all OK during POST. Load adpu320.ham driver, get choice of two HINs - choose appropriate HIN - all OK. Turn on HP Ultrium 460 external tape drive - server crashes with 'critical error..'.
Abend log shows..
Abend 1 on P00: Server-5.00k: Page Fault Processor Exception (Error code 00000000)
...portion removed...
EIP = 000000FF FLAGS = 00010292
Address (FF) exceeds valid memory limit
EIP in UNKNOWN memory area
Access Location: 0x000000FF

The Ultrium is set to use an unused scsi id.

Any help/pointers of things to try would be very gratefully received.

What does the server do if everything is powered up prior to the server running? Are you running the latest version of the ADPU320 driver?

"It's true, its damn true!"

If everything is powered on before starting the server and I don't load the .ham in startup.ncf. The server boots properly - appears to recognise it's got new hardware - starts loading nwconfig - then freezes with a screen I have never seen before - I think it's the ASCII 'Smiley' - very freaky. I then have to ctrl-alt-esc to be able to down the server.
The adpu320.ham is the one that came with the Adaptec card - is version 1.10 21st August 2002.
Thanks
