Can anyone tell me if we can install an external ringer on a 7100 set from a Norstar MICS system? We have a phone in a large area and they cannot hear it ring. Can anyone advise what kind of external ringers are available for a Norstar system and what requirements it might need, for example, an electrical outlet, it's own port on the system, etc.?

i once used a bog standard BT external ringer (2 ren) i think & programmed aux ringer against the extn port & plugged it in the bottom of the 7100.

Remember if it doesn't work hit it harder

Algo ringer plugs in to the ringer port of the set and is pretty loud, you can also add an extra self amplified speaker to the Algo.

If you don't want to buy one of the ringers that plug into the jack on the phone, You can also get any ringer that activates with a contact closure. There are many of them out there.
Just wire it to the Aux Ringer port on the switch and program the set for AUX RINGER: Y. When someone calls that extension, the norstar will close the contact to trigger the ringer.
Just beware, this will ring ANY TIME any telephone or any line is set for auxillary ringing. So if you are already using the aux ringer port for a line or a set, then this line or set will ring where you put your new ringer.

Get the ALGO duet plus with the loud speaker option. You cant go wrong with it. It is designed for the norstar and has FULL instruction on how to set it up with very clear pictures. available from Graybar

I was told by my a vendor to purchase a Wheelock Universal Alert (is universal to any digital set) and I set the Auxilliary alert to "Y" in both the set capabilities and line assignment. The alert is attached to the bell port underneath the 7100 set and there is no AC electric required. It doesn't work. Suggestions?

Send the wheel lock back and get the Algo Duet Plus
All your worries will be over Full Stop. I have inst6alled this arrangement on at least 50 customer sites with absolutely NO problem BTW it is also the ONLY AUX ringer supported by Nortel
