Hello All;

I have a Merlin system and a tech unplugged my fax machine that has a direct line. I am very unfamiliar with this system as I have only done extension renumbering . . . otherwise I've done nothing.

I need to figure out which port on what blade goes to the the external number ending in 0305.

Here's some info . . . where and how should I begin looking?

Thanks,

Plug a single line phone into the fax machine's jack. Go off hook, and if you get INSIDE dial tone, call another extension that has a display, and not the extension number that you are calling from. If you get OUTSIDE dial tone when you lift the handset, dial a local number, and when it answers, FLASH on the single line phone, which should give you inside dial tone, and again dial another extension with a display to figure out the extension number of the fax machine.

Once you know that, go back into WinSPM, and print the info for that extension.

I am sorry for not making my situation more clear. The fax machine's line is run up to a patch panel. The patch cable was run from the patch panel to the blade.

Now, the tech removed all the patch cables. There are about 70 he didn't plug back in. One of those was the fax.

So what I have is fax line up to the patch panel and about 70 patch cables to choose from . . . i've started toning and testing, but no luck so far.

What I am trying to figure out is which blade/port goes to the fax line so I can just repatch.

thanks

The fax machine, being an analog device, will connect to a port on one of the 016 T/R modules (6 & 9). I see several fax machines referenced in the dial plan for stations.

I suppose a way to figure out which port it goes to would be to connect a single line telephone to each port on the 016 T/R modules, call the fax number and see if the phone rings. Repeat until correct port is found....then document your findings.
