I know that individual users can add an ldap address book in outlook. But can I do this at the exchange system level for the entire organization?

We work closely with another entity that is not part of our network (physically or logically) and many of our users need to be able to look up contacts from the other site's email directory. The problem with having each user do it individually is that the other site then has to create and account. The accounts also are forced to change the password ever 30 days.

So I would like to be able to create a new address list in the system manager somehow.

Thanks!

Did you ever find out how to do this? I have the same problem. I need to have our Exchange Server read an LDAP server in another department for my users to do address book lookup.

Thanks
Mike

Nope, I've just ended up adding it to individual machines as an additional address book.

But if you do find a solution, I would sure appreciate you letting me know.

Yes I found a 3rd party program to do this. It is a bit pricey $10K to do what I want but may be worth it. The program is called SimpleSync and will allow you transfer the users from an external LDAP server to your Exchange as Mail enabled EMAIL Contacts. I did alittle testing and yes it works as described. Since I have a address book of about 5000 users to bring in this program will eliminate my need for a GROUPWISE gateway and needing to run NOVELL IPX and clients on my Exchange Box. Putting Novell Client on my Exchange has slowed it down quite a lot.

Have either of you tried using the Active Directory Connector? I know that this is a 5.5 to 2000+ directory sync service, but it may be applicable in this situation.

I haven't tried this myself, so I don't know if it would work.

Not sure if that would work for Exchange 2003. See my goal is to be able to see the External LDAP directory from my Exchange GAL. So far SimpleSync does this without problems. It basically copies the External LDAP as a mail enabled OU. It works rather well but is it bit pricey.

I will look at the active directory connector but since we are using an OPEN LDAP External Linux server I doubt this would work.
