We have just finished the installation of a shiny new 3300MXe and we have a remote factory a couple of miles away that is connected by a BT 100Meg Lan extension. Its a noisy factory and they need some form of external bell / ringer flashing light so they can hear /see the phone ring.

My supplier is unable to come up with anything and a quick internet search hasn't revealed such a product to exist. So what can I do? Running an analogue extension just isn't possible over the Lan extension and the only solution anyone has come up with is to use SIP converters to convert it to ip and then back again.

Any help gladly accepted!

This solution will no doubt cancel any warranty on the set, but I have gone so far as to solder wires on to the speaker leads inside the set and then run that a mini paging amp with speaker attached. Haven't done it on a Mitel set, but I don't see why it wouldn't be the same.

Just remember, if you talk on speaker phone, everyone will hear!

You can't fix stupid...

But you sure can profit from it!

At this point, your most economical option would probably be to use a POTS-to-VOIP converter to pipe an analog circuit over the network link. Just be sure the ring voltage on the remote end is enough to trigger your loud bell. I think Multi-Tech makes (or used to make) units that will do what you need.

I was also going to recommend checking with MultiTech systems. At one time they were working with Mitel to develop a device similar to the Cisco ATA (a product which Mitel sorely needs, IMO). We have a number of places where we simply cannot put an IP phone and don't need a pBX or a key system, just a phone or a stinger/buzzer or claxon horn out in the yard. Our getaround, unfortunately, has been to have a centralized Cisco CM and then route those few numbers to it then deploy the ATAs at the remote site.

This is a revenue stream Mitel is missing out on.... hint, hint.

You might want to look at the Grandstream HT-502 ATA device. It works very well as a cheap ($40) 2 port fsx device. I hav several of them setup for analog faxes on the 3300.

Then you could hook up a cheap bell/buzzer.

Thanks for your help everyone you have given me some avenues to investigate. The Grandstream HT-502 looks interesing and I've passed its details on to my supplier. I might also need to buy a cheap 5201 off ebay and look at taking it aprt to wire it up to an amp!

Cheers

If you go with the HT-502 let me know as it can be a bit tricky to program. Once I figured out what to do it works great. Grandstream was stumped.
