I run XPhome and XPpro on separate NTFS partitions, originally the home OS detected the drive fine, after installing the pro OS, I found the drive was not being automaticly detected by it,i get a (code42) error in device manager under USB mass storage.
I have tried to determine the duplicate driver problem by removing the driver from the home OS/along with many other trivial fixes/no luck.
Oddly enough when the drive is powered down/then back up it finds it and corrects everything in device manager untill next boot.
Why would the OS think there is another instance of USBSTOR.SYS running?
MY only other USB hardwares are a logitech mouse, and canon scanner[which is not installed on the pro OS]
Thanks in advance, Dave
I have already tried removing the scanner from the device manager and having it unplugged//no difference!
PS:;I've already checked iomegas site, they are stumped!

There have been updates and patches involving USB recently. A visit to Windows Update Site may be an idea.

Error 42.

Windows cannot load the device driver for this hardware because there is a duplicate device already running in the system.

(Code 42) A duplicate device was detected.

This error occurs when a bus driver erroneously creates two identically named children (bus driver error), or when a device with a serial number is discovered in a new location before it is removed from the old location.

Restart the computer.

On the General Properties tab of the device, click Troubleshoot to start the troubleshooting wizard.

816843 - FIX: Fast Swap of USB Devices May Cause USB Host Controller to Stop Functioning on Windows XP

The device isnt even in the device manager until the drive is restarted, then it appears.
I checked out the hotfix, but that's for an incorrect letter and/or device showing in explorer.
This drive doesn't appear in explorer until the power sequence is accomplished [off-on].
Once its showing it always has the letter that windows assighned to it plus "IOMEGA_HHD" which is always the same.
I don't know if this helps but the two OSs show different letters for it when I was using it on home also,D on the pro OS,and F on the Home OS [the first and original installed OS].
