Hi Folks,

I'm interested in buying an external firewire harddrive. I'm running out of room on my current internal ones, since I download a lot of video using bittorrent. Are external drives built to withstand constant writing/updating that would be experienced from downloading a gig worth of data at a time, or are they designed more for backups where writing is done all at once (technically not at once, but you know what I mean!)?

Thanks,
Joe

Yes, the external drive shouldn't have any problem with this type of use. I do a very similar thing with an older USB externl drive and haven't had a lick of trouble.

All great accomplishments were once considered impossible.

Check the speed vs. the speed of your internal one.

Also whats the point in a external unless your out of room inside your box? The internals are so easy to install and the externals cost a ton more.

Both are 7200 as far as the speed goes. I have run out of room in my case, plus I like the portability. I do bring some stuff from work and tinker at home, so it'll be convenient to bring large amounts of data home (not too often, but definitely worth the convenience).

Thanks!
