Hello,

I have a bytecc enclosure with a samsung dvd/cdrw burner. The issue that I have is when I connect the external drive to a laptop with USB 1.1. When I start nero or any apps, like adobe, the apps freeze. They will resume as soon as I remove/disconnect the USB cable. I do not have these issues when connecting to a USB 2.0. Both laptops have WINXP SP2, which the only difference being the USB versions.
I think the problem is with the enclosure not able to adjust its speed to slower 1.1. Does anyone ever have this issue or know what other possible solutions I can do? Thank you in advance for your help.

It seems as though you have both usb1.1 and usb2.0 and the unit works on the usb2.0 so why not just leave it there?
Or is the usb2.0 on another machine and works fine on the other machine?
Are there any yellow or red marks in dev mgr when connected to usb1.1?
the external case has its own power supply, right? So its not a power issue, more like a driver issue?
What chipset is in the external box?

garebo,

Thanks for the reply. Yeah, the 2.0 is another machine. The device manager in the 1.1 machine doesn't indicate any problems (no yellow or red marks). The enclosure does have its own power (make Bytecc) but not sure what chipset it has. The manual for it states that it doesnt need a driver installed if using WINXP since it works with whatever driver comes with XP. Although I did uninstalled it and re-install with the driver that came with the enclosure and still same issues.

Is there a way to check interface errors on usb ports? I really think it has something to do with the external box sending more than the usb1.1 port can handle but would like to verify with something like tx or rx errors. I was also wondering if a firmware or driver? upgrade to the enclosure can be done. I went to the bytecc website and didnt see anything to that effect.
