Hi,
I'm looking to implement a portal solution and as my network is MS W2K it makes sense that I look at SharePoint. After reading several White Papers I still haven't found a section explaining clearly the best method of allowing external users (clients) to get access to certain areas of the server. Is this best done by user log-on access security plus firewall security or ..... ?

To what areas are you specifically looking to give access?

And the Firewall security to which you refer: are your connecting clients behind it, outside it or both?

And do you intend to implement SharePoint Team Services or Portal Server?

Hope I or somebody can guide you.

I'm looking at installing the Portal Server. What I would like is a space on the server to act as an Extranet for our clients to collect and approve data.
Regarding the firewall. I have not decided how to do this, but I'll probably install a DMZ.

We have the same issue/question as ACraib ... Any help or suggestions would be appreciated ...

Yes, same here.
We are planning a new intranet and extranet with SPS.
Websitevisitors shall have the chance to view news and contents. Next to this a login-area for registered users shall be integrated/available.
Registered users shall have the chance to login and view special subsites, concerning their business and their business only !
Depending on the logged in users only those sites/pages shall be shown which are meant to be shown to him.
How can I
1) add and activate such a login-feature and "link" it to "registered" users or groups on my server and
2) "link" sites/pages to users so only contents meant for them is shown ?

Many thanks in advance and regards,

Niclas
