We are going to organize safety backup on MD (very different versions) using CompactFLASF card.

The chain is:
1. CompactFlach card (SanDisk, 128 MB)
2. PCMCIA card adapter for CompactFlash Type1 (from DATAFAB)
3. PCMCIA card reader and SCSI Bus adapter (Accent device from Adtron Corporation).
4. SCSI cable to NIU(R3A) or IPU.

I can mount all this as normal backup device and make safety or normal backup to SF card using IPU or NIU.

Problem is: reload from SF failed (with 5010 on LPU-display) when SF connected to NIU.
But if I swap NIU with IPU (in the same system), MD reload from SF without ANY PROBLEMS. (After loading via IPU, IPU can be removed and swapped with NIU back and everything looks perfect since that).

Another small(big?) problem is: when I FTP this SF card via NIU, FTP connection was extremely unstabile. I did't manage to upload data file for LIM (about 2.8Mb). Connection was lost every time after uploading ~2.2Mb.

All involved devices were changed many times. No real improving.

Looks like timing problem in NIU.

Is there anyone who got this type of problem or can say something related?

Wood very much appreciate any real help.
Thanks

Hi avstral,

what niu firmware are you using? versions below R14A had problems loading from safety device...

Hi Daddy,

Ooops, it's R10 [sleeping2]. Will upgrade it tomorrow and test.

Thanks$best regards

Daddy,

With R15A firmware system reloads from FLASH via NIU.
It's good. Thanks for this.

Bad side is - FTP to Flash still really unstabile.
Hopefully, we will survive with this, as system backup on Flash executing will.

Thank again and best regards

Avstral, latest FW is R16A, R17A will come out shortly (is in fieldtrial for the moment). reagrding the unstable FTP connection, what software are you using? (also do you have by any chance checkpoint FW software on your computer?)

in any case R17A will deal with some FTP stack issues in the NIU, so wait and see with this firmware...

Cheers,
Daddy

Daddy,
For FTP I use Total Commander 5.5 and YES, I've "CheckPoint VPN-1 secure client" software on my PC (as a part of corporate SOE).
Have you met a problems because of CheckPoint?

Best regards

yes indeed,

we found a bug concercing checkpoint secure client and NIU ftp stack, big FTP downloads always abort. NIU R17A should solve this problem, in the mean time, disable the security policy on your NIC. (right click checkpoint icon, click configure, in the menu click 'policy' and then 'disable policy'). then it will work like it should...

greetings,

Daddy

Well,
I can just confirm - FTP transfer problems were caused by "CheckPoint VPN-1 secure client".
When client disabling, FTP went healthy.

Daddy, you are a man!!! :)

Have a good weekend

just to make this clear for everyone, the bug itself is not in checkpoint secure client but in the NIU firmware...

How many firmware-releases for NIU I will see in my life? It is a so important card... I think the problem is, that /// has too less software-developers in sweden at the moment. Can someone confirm this?

I can just confirm, that E/// outsoursed big&sweet piece of MD110's development pie.

Guess where to?
Correct! To India!!!

So some reasons I do not believe in such an improvement[sadeyes]....

Those damn indians... [peace]

Daddy & all those who contributed in this thread there valuable suggestions & comments....

Let me tell you that 40% of workforce in Microsoft are Indians....I assume & bit sure that all of us here on tek-tips are using windows OS...
Those who don't trust the capability of Indians...can you pls dump it....

As Avstral was bit sure that outsourcing is to India only....Can you comment what could be the reason for this...may be the developers there were not capable to manage with quailty or pricing ....that's the reason they outsourced thinking of all pros & cons....

Finally I would like to suggest not to make these sort of comments....

Its an good site where we can share the ideas & post helpful tips which gives us due respect & satisfaction & at the same time more to learn...

So keep up the spirit....

Thanks for your understanding Gentlemen....

BR,

Hi
Microsoft is a crap operating system compared to unix
based systems like sun and linux.

singhbrindisi,

"Those who don't trust the capability of Indians" - mate, I deeply believe, that Indians ARE NOT something special in programming. Not more, than any another nation.

If there is any relation between percentage of Indian programmers in Microsoft and MS's products unreliably - shame of Indian nation. Or you do not take responsibility for the end product and care only about your salary package?

I've seen, what happened, when IBM moved development to India. May be product cost drop or quality raised drastically?

I don't want the same shit happen with E///!

Changing Daddy's words into more correct form, I'll repeat again and again: damn this f-g outsourcing!!!

With respect to Indian culture, Taj Mahal and believe in Cama Sutra

Gentlemen,

I think it will be an endless argument similar like who came first "Egg or Hen"

Its better to be true professionals without commenting on Nationality/Race/Religion etc....
No one is perfect in this world...

In a global market, MNC's looks in there best interest in terms of profits & no one can change that....

About Ousourcing by E/// or to E///.....Recently India's biggest cellular operator outsourced its entire O&M business to E///......& No one complained as India do have the highest pool of engg. graduates every year...Indians do believe in competing & global market scenario...

So Mates: Better is to concentrate more on giving Technical tips to resolve problems & keeping the harmony...

Special Thanks to My Dear friend Avstral..

Hi Avstral, can you specefied what hardware you are using, e.a. Pcmcia to flash and Scsi adapter..
