Hi,

we have Networker 7.2.2. Build 494 with a real and a virtual Jukebox

The real jukebox is a adic scalari2000 actually licensed with 200 Slots and 4 LTO3 drives

For this i have set up in networker Slot 1-202 for use and Slot 203-204 as cleaning slot for 2 cleaning tapes.
That works fine since 1 1/2 year.

Now i got a add. license extention for 100 slots on the adic as key to type in to the adic.
In Networker we have a 256 slot license for the Adic and a unlimited for the virtual tape libary

My Question´s is now:

1. What range shoudl i type in networker for usage and which for the cleaning ?

(1-256 for usage and 257-258 for cleaning or 1-254 for usage and 255-256 for cleaning ?)

2. How do i tell the adic that the cleaning tapes are not longer in Slot 203-204 and now be in slot 255-256 or 257-258 ?

3. Do i have to shut down the networker daemons for this ?

1. This depends on how many slots are reported.
2. Remove the cleaning media
Adjust the appropriate slot ranges from the GUI
Add the cleaning tapes again
3. As long as you do not change the the resource file directly, there is no need to shutdown NW.

To my knowledge cleaning slots are also counted as slots, so if you have 256 slot license, the cleaning slots should be within that range.

Thx,

actual i added the licese to the adic, changed the partitoon information to 252 slots (next would be 258 which is to much)

Problem now is, the networker does not get this new information.
Already rebooted the whole system.

How do i tell the networker that the jukebox has now 252 instad of 204 slots ?
On the information tab is still showes 1-204 so i can not ad more slots in the avaiulable slot list

I do not have access to a jbox right now but you should be able to see the slots (hidden?) somewhere in the jbox resource .

yes, thats my problem..i see there 1-204 (in Windows and unix nwadmin) but there is no possibility to change it.

I looked at jbedit command but there i can only add drives i did not found a slot option.

How do i tell networker that the libary has now 1-252 instead of 1-204 slots ??

There's a lot of editing that has to be done on a jukebox resource to change how many slots it has.

To be perfectly honest, it's much simpler to simply delete the jukebox resource, and rerun jbconfig and have it set it up properly.

@Chapter11

Thts what i do not wont..the problem is in our config (Solaris 10 update1 wqith emulex drivers) jbconfig does not automatically wotk because inquire does also not work (know limitation)

So the editing is definitly the better choice

Ok then...

First, I have no suggestions regarding the cleaning slots - I leave my hardware to do that, not Networker.

besides the two or three fields that indicate how many slots the unit has, you should also see three or four other fields in the definition of the jukebox that list what volumes are loaded:

volumes, volume ids, and probably either volume cartridge ids or STL barcodes depending on the type of device.

Those other fields contain one line for each slot in the device (a line may be blank). If you add slots, you must add the same number of blank lines to these values.

This is sensitive, in that each one of these fields must contain an exact line count (1 line per slot). If you are off by one, problems will ensue. You are warned.

Good luck.

Hello Novelli,

at first make a copy from your networker resource files.
Then look in which file the information are. I do this under Unix/Linux with:
/nsr/res/nsrdb # find . -print | xargs egrep -i slots

and I got this output:

./03/17001a0106cfc7457f000001:available slots: 1-19;
./03/17001a0106cfc7457f000001:cleaning slots: 20;
./03/17001a0106cfc7457f000001:enabled slots: 20;
./03/17001a0106cfc7457f000001:physical slots: 1, 20;

Then please shutdown the networker and modify the file so that it fit to your Autochanger license and restart the networker.
At least type in:
nsrjb –U [Anzahl der default cleanings] –j [Name der Jukebox] –S [Cleaning Slot]
e.g. nsrjb –U 50 –j debejb001 –S 20

to "say" the jukebox where are the cleaning tapes.

I have done this several times whithout problems, but you can do this only until Version 7.2.x. Whith a newer version you are not able to modify the resource so the the networker will accept it.

If you need more information please let me know and we can talk about this.

Viel Glück
