Extension with voicemail setup

Stupid question. How to setup simple extension with voicemail and custom greeting?
 
Which voicemail do you have (Merlin Mail, Avaya Merlin Messaging...etc)?

Very generally speaking, fully log into the voicemail as the Admin, select the option "To Administer Extensions", enter the extension number, choose option "Has a Phone", record a greeting/prompt, save changes and exit out.

If it ain't broke, I haven't fixed it yet.
 
Also add the extension to the voice mail coverage group, usually 30

Can you be more specific as to what "setup an extension" means [ponder]

I try to add the ext to coverage group but can't do that. The ext doesn't exist.
 
You may be in over your head here.

You will need to extend wiring from the phone system control unit to the phone location. Then you will need to connect to an available unused port on the phone system. When the phone comes up, determine its extension number, and if necessary, renumber it to fit in with the dial plan of the other current extensions. Then Copy the lines and features from an extension that is already set up the way you want this one to be. Follow Paul's (Dexman's) advice on creating the mailbox, now that you have a valid extension number you'll be able to add it to the coverage group, and you will be golden!!!
 
Hmmm. Is there a phone already connected to the extension? Are you able to leave a message in the extension's mailbox?

If it ain't broke, I haven't fixed it yet.
