Can you activate a microphone on an extension from another phone without that extension knowing that the microphone on their extension is activated.

Under the system telephony tab there is a spot for "beep on listen" that is checked by default. Uncheck it, but be careful as not having the beep is illegal in certain locals.

Firstly is this for when the person is on a call. I would like to activate the microphone when the phone is just sitting there on a desk. Secondly is there a short code to activate this feature.

deinterlect, no as that is illegal in most places and can't be done anyway. Telecomboy is talking about listening in to a live call, not what you are talking about :)

Can it be done with any PBX system other than the IP Office.

deinterlect,

I don't know of any that do, or know anyone who will work somewhere that does this, there is no need for this kind of thing on a PABX :)

My point exactly. I have a client that is requesting this feature for their organisation. Apparently a competitor offered them this solution and told them that it could be done with a PBX system they install. I just want to make sure that this sort of thing cannot be done

In call yes, while idle no. You can force a call onto their speakerphone and mute you own, but they could see this happen, if the client wants this you are probably better off without them anyway :)

That's true. Does anyone know what the channel monitor short code does and how it is programmed?
