I have an NEC SL1100 system in the main building and have 5 IP phones and a fax in another building. The buildings are connected with fiber. I can make the ip phones work but cannot figure out how to get the fax (POTS) across the fiber.
I have the NEC connected to a Netgear fvs318 router going across the fiber to a Netgear fs108 switch.
Any suggestions?

Analog Gateways
Something like this:

It connects to the network switch wich is already on the fibre.

Would I need one of these at each end? FXO at the router side and FXS at the far end with the POTS line connected to port 1?

Make sure your gateway can handle T.38 as Fax over Voip can be problematical. Also consider whether it is worth buying one for each end or simply buying one and provisioning a Sip trunk for the fax. Also it is not as simple as buying one for each end as one has to be FXO and the other FXS. Some units can handle both but they don't all do it.
