Hey,

I have some Dell Latitude in my office (C600, C610 etc..)
when ever these users are disconnected their PS2 connector with Keyboard or mouse the internal mouse go crazy... Oo

I tried playing with the BIOS with no success.

Any idea might help :)

Are they plugging & unplugging the PS2 device with the computer turned on? Generally, this is a no-no. If this is what the users are doing, try unplugging with the computer turned off, then see if the same thing happens.

man... I thought that is only for Win98 and older OS,
was sure the "superb" Winxp should solve this.. :
I told my users to do this, or even just to put the laptop on "standby" but this simple functionality should work, right?

Just tell me if I'm asking too much ;-)

Thx, Kuz

I'm not sure if standby will work. A PS2 connection is a hardware connection that is not meant to be unplugged hot. This behavior is due to the hardware architecture and has nothing to due with the operating system. Here's an analogy: Try taking the steering wheel out of you car while you're driving - it really won't matter what kind of car you have. [wink]

I have the same problem with my Gateway. If I use a wheel mouse, the curser goes crazy. If I plug in a plain mouse, it works OK! It seems to be a conflict between the mouse and the touchpad. In the BIOS, can you disable the touchpad?

PS2 is not hotswopable! stop disconnecting the hardware whilst turned on.
If you really must continue with this practice then buy USB devices instead.

Please provide a reference for this statement, because as far as I know, this is simply not true - usb is hot-swappable, ps2 is not.

Well....

I'm willing to bet on a big beer, on the following:
1. take any given Dell Latitude 600 and above with Win 98\XP
2. restart it without mouse on PS2
3. connect the mouse
4. it would work!!
5. disconnect the mouse
6. reconnect it again, it would work again!!

I'll have a Leffe Blond, ice cold, thx.

;-)

that's why I don't understand why the damn thing gets crazy O|o

What does that prove?

If you want to shut a PC down, you could just pull the power cord and chances are it would boot up fine the next time.
The fact doesn't legitimise the method.

This statement:

Is in conflict with:
1. take any given Dell Latitude 600 and above with Win 98\XP
2. restart it without mouse on PS2
3. connect the mouse
4. it would work!!
5. disconnect the mouse
6. reconnect it again, it would work again!!

You are never suppose to disconnect any PS2 mouse or keyboard without shutting the computer off first. They are not plug and play. Good way to short out the port.
