Dear all,

I have a client who is using queryman 5.1 on Teradata.
He is new at it and is not really proactive.
Could someone tell me what is the better statement to export a table into a fixed width or a ~ separated file with Queryman?

Thanks a lot in advance

I have usually found, that if you are staying in a PC environment, delimited files are easier to import into other applications. Fixed width are sometimes required by larger platforms.

OK,

I will tell him to export into a delimited file.
But what is the statement for that in Queryman (I can do it with Fospro or MS SQL but not with this one)?
Do you know where I can find a Queryman online help?

Thanks in Advance

You have to click in the menu on top of the page:
File->Export Results.
You will see that above the query-window a message appears: "Results are redirected to a file or a table".
When you execute a query a pop-up window appears where you want to save the results of your query. You can save it as delimited text-file or ms access file.

If you want to save it as delimited text file and you want to change the delimiter go to:
Tools->Options->AnswerSet tab
You'll see an option: "Use this delimiter between columns in Export/Import files": here you can choose which delimiter you want.

I am sorry but I am not the actual user of Queryman.
I am only the recipient of the finbal text delimited file.
The table to export to a text file contain 70 fields and 2,4million records and it is a lentghy one. And so far they have just been able to transfer the table to teradata to a SAS machine and then export from SAS. It is time consuming and I was wondering if it could be done faster using Queryman directly, with a script/program instead of some wizard(I know it used to be slow with foxpro).Besides they would like to automate it so a program would be better (if of course it is possible within Queryman).

This will not be possible with Queryman since it will have to export everything to a desktop.
They will have to use the export possibilities of BTEQ or have to use fastexport (if they have a license of fastexport...) on a UNIX server or NT server. Don't let them use such a SAS "in between" step: it consumes lots of time, BTEQ or fastexport will be much less time consuming!
With BTEQ or fastexport you can write a program, and let it run for example every night or whatever you want.

OK,

I also want them to stop using SAS. And will tell them to use BTEQ or FastExport.

THANKS A LOT Patten
