Hello,

I have a problem with Adobe inDesign exporting feature. I need to export my inDesign documents to PDF format: they have to be printable but the user has not to be able to copy text or images.
At the moment I am not able to achieve this, I mean if I set the Security options, the user is not able to copy text or images and ALSO to print.
Please, has any of you found a workaround?
Thanks a bunch,

Lucia.

In the making of the PDF in InDesign do this:

Go to the Security

Then Permissions.

Tick the "Use a password to restrict printing, editing and other tasks" checkbox

Don't insert a passowrd

Printing Allowed: High Resolution
Changes Allowed: None

Untick the Enable, copying of text, images and other content.

I think by law you have to have the last check box ticked. I could be wrong about that, but you can turn it off if you like.

I think the compatibility needs to be Acrobat 5 or newer - you can change that in the drop down menu in the export dialogue. Or you can change it in the Acrobat menu if you have Professional.

Hello,

thank you for your reply.
Unfortunately it does not work: I get the message "Please enter a Permissions password".
My compatibility is set to Acrobat 5.0.
Please, any advise is welcome.
Thanks,

Lucia.

Then just put in a passoword. It can be anything. Just don't forget the password. The only reason you need a permissions password is that if you were to make any changes to the pdf you would need to insert a passoword to do it. Hence copying and changing the pdf is impossible without the password.

Hello,

I am writing some commercial brochures, and then the final user needs to print them and I need he is not able to copy text or images.
Now, if I set the password, he won't be able to print these documents and really I can't distribute brochures that can't be printed.
Please, any idea about?
Thanks again,

Lucia.

If you allow hi resolution printing and set a password they will still be able to print it out. They won't be able to make changes without the password. Follow my instructions that are previous here, and insert a password. Open up the PDF and print it out yourself to prove to yourself that you don't need the password to print it, you only need it to make changes to it.
