Exporting Reports

Hey all

We have a report that shows across the page, ITEM, SALE DATE, CUSTOMER, AMOUNT etc which is our client exports, and then reimports into another software package used for reporting.

Now recently, this import sheet changed due to some database changes which has cause us a few problems, mainly being that the report, when exported to text, now has a space between each transaction. Therefore, report no longer imports. I have tried diferent printer drivers, page sizers and even moving the fields closer to together!

Please, has anyone got any suggestions on what else to do?

Can ypou explain further what is meant by:
now has a space between each transaction ?

Does it now have 1 blank line after each record?
( That would seem to be either a data issue ( some records are all NULLs ) or a formatting one ( tighten the section size and supress all unneeded sections)..

Yes, sorry for the shocking english in that post. It basically now has a blank line between each line. I have tried to squash them up but still with no luck.

Which Crystal? (You should find that from Help > About Crystal Reports).

What are you exporting to?

Have you got the latest patches and dlls?

When you say "due to some database changes" what exactly does that mean? Did you add new fields, get rid of fields, change field lengths or data types, or did you simply add records to the database without changing the data structure at all?

Exporting to TEXT is not a good choice for data transfer. There is a very good chance your IMPORT side supports comma separated values, and that export format doesn't have any formatting issues because it's designed for data transfer rather than from data dispolay.

There are also other options, such as ODBC export directly into the target database.

The program that the report comes from was upgraded, although there was no data changes. However, we think that it may have something to do with the printer?

It's crystal 8.5.

At the moment, the columns line up, however, we still have a space between each line.

We are opening it in a editing product called PFE.

In 2003, there was a change in Crystal 8.5 export that improved it a great deal. If your export-choice says things like Excel Extended rather than MS Excel 97, then an update should fix it.

That's assuming Crystal still does free updates for such an old version: if not, someone on this forum may be able to help you.
