Any ideas on how I can get groups within my report exported out to PDF individually. Client is keen on, when printing report, have each group saved out to its own individual pdf file so that each file can then be sent to its respective department (the grouping in the report corresponds to department names).

Is there a quick and dirty way of doing this from within Crystal, short of coding up some macro for this.

thx in advance!

I don't think that a macro would serve you well here.

You can write a front end application to do this using VB, etc.

Or you could create on demand subreports so that users could export each group section on demand.

You didn't post specifics, such as whether this was to be done manually or automatically, not even your software version.

Or you might use a 3rd party product to "burst" the report, such as Ido's:

Or you can pass a parameter to the report to only do one group at a time.

synapsevampire,

thx for the fast response, wow!

A little more detail. We're using Cystal 10, and the client wants the most 'automatic' way possible to chunk this report out to pdf, based on the report groupings.
So instead of simply using the Export to pdf option within Crystal which dumps out the whole report - she'd like to have a little more control, though without manual intervention (of course!).

I'm curious as to what you mean by 'on demand subreports'. Could you quickly explain what you mean by this? If possible, I'd like to avoid the VB frontend app as I dont want to spend inordinate amount of time on this.

At this point I'm thinking of just allowing her to prompt by group; she could then just print out each section that way and then amalgamate. Far from the automaticness she's wanting though.

Any thoughts?
thx.
Steve

I use the software mentioned in the previous post. It works very well for bursting a seperate pdf for each group header.
