I have had this problem for the last couple months and have never had it before. Wondering if its happened for anyone else or if anyone has suggestions...

Everything in Premiere works fine until I try and export the timeline. Every time I have my camera hooked up through firewire and I try and play the video in the timeline it will freeze and my computer will be completly locked up. No matter what location in the timeline I start from it will freeze. I have tried another camera with the same result. I have also tried "print to video" and agian it will freeze before I can see any video in my camera. This happens for any project in the timeline.

I tried reinstalling Premiere, but I still get the same results. Every so often, while I'v been tring to work through this I get a blue error screen when connecting the camera. It tells me it is dumping the memory and I must restart my computer. So Im wondering if there is a problem with my memory somewhere, any suggestions before I'm forced to reformat would be most appreciated.

Please post details of your system.

Cheers,

Sorry, I have 1.2 Ghz AMD processor, 512MB DDR Memory (1 slot), 40GB hard drive, and 80GB HD that I use for all my video footage, Radon 8500 AGP Graphics Card, Texas Insturment firewire card, XP operating system. Hope that helps.

I've been tring to capture it to a Sharp VL-NZ100 Mini DV camera.

I just downloaded a trial version of ULead Video 7, I rendered a avi movie from premiere and tried to export it from ULead, but this also froze. So my problem appears to be with my memory or operating system and not premiere.

Still wondering if anyone has had this happen or ideas on any solutions, thanks.

Did your camera come with software of its own? Have you checked Sharp's website for updates or queries regarding the camera?

Can you export a movie from the timeline to the hard drive?

Cheers,

The camera didn't come with any software. I havn't checked for any updates for it.

I don't think the problem is with the camera. I used the camera several months ago at different times with no problems. My computer seems to be recognizing the camera fine, my computer tells me it has detected a a image device and gives me a list of what to do ie. "record and edit with premiere". If I choose it or click cancel it still freezes when th cursor is over the timeline.

Yes I can export the timeline to the hard drive with out a problem. In fact everything seems to be working fine on my computer except premiere when trying to export from the timeline. Yesterday I exported part of the movie to the hard drive, and tried to export that to my camera through the trial version of ULead but that frooze.

I'm stumpped to what is causing this.

Ooookay, let me see if I have this all straight.

You can transfer video fine from the camera to the computer, resulting in an AVI file of some kind.
You can edit video fine in Premiere or uLead.
You can export from Premiere and uLead to a Quicktime or AVI on your hard drive, no problem.
As soon as you try to export from either of your video editors to the camera, the computer hangs.
In the past, you have been able to export from Premiere to the camera and there were no problems.

Hm.

I think I can tell you the following things:

The problem is probably not with Premiere.
The problem is probably not with uLead.
The problem may be with some system setting.
The problem may be with the camera driver.

May I suggest getting a copy of the USB driver software from Sharp (the camera ships with USB software and if you did not get it, then you should go to Sharp's site and download it).

I might also recommend going over
in case that provides some help.

If the camera is under warranty, then you should be bugging Sharp's tech support about it, too.

Cheers,

Thanks for all the help Edward, although its still freezing.

I don't think it is the camera because it used to work and I'm not using a usb port so i shouldn't need a new usb driver.

It could be a system setting... any suggestions on waht to change?

As an update: I reformated my HD and reinstalled premiere and it still freezes on any effort to export.
After looking through the Adobe forums it seems a bunch of other people have similar exporting problems. No one seems to have a a good solution. Some people think its a problem with AMD computers others think its the capture card and everything in between. I'm not sure and this is beyond fustrating.

Okay, here are some thoughts that might help:

When I borrowed someone's digital camera, I could not get Premiere to see or operate the camera. But there was some kind of separate application that came with my video card and that application allowed me to capture video just terrific. When I tried a commercial app, it never worked, but when I tried the video card app, worked like a charm -- as long as Premiere wasn't running at all.

The camera came with some primitive video editing software, too.

So, if I were in your shoes (chances are they would be too small) I would scour the websites of all my hardware manufacturers and make sure all my drivers are up to speed. I would update my USB software and try that interface, using a variety of kinds of software. I would try the camera in someone else's computer and see if I could get it to work.

And I would keep a detailed notebook covering everything I tried.

Hope that helps ya'.

One more thing to add to this, is that sometimes when you install something AFTER you what was working correctly, the new install could have "messed" up yur system settings.

For example, I bought Warcraft III and it loaded, installed and I could play it fine. Then, I installed three programs after that ( Medal of Honor, Ulead DVD Workshop, Windows Updates for WinXp ) , then suddenly WarCraft III started to hang every time I played it.

medal of Honor and ulead, and the program still hung. To test a theory, I installed all WC III on another comp that had a celan set=up of WinXp and it worked fine on that one. I thne installed MEdal of Honor; game worked fine. Did the WinXp Update, game worked fine, so deduction, must be the ULead...So, I installed that , and guess what? the Game hung.

What did you install after the camera software?

i have a new amd pc, with radeon video card, 1gb memory, 140gb hdd, and a asus deluxe MB, wich comes with a firewire card. i just recently moved up from a 750mhz AMD, 32gb video card, 40gb hdd and standard asus board.

ok with that out of the way, the old pc worked but the new one wouldnt export!, i kicked my a$$ around the room trying to figure this one out, i could capture no probs, the computer would recognize the camera, hell i could even use it as a web cam if i wanted! but still no exporting to tape..

until that is i put in the firewire from my old pc, into the new one. the ASUS deluxe board has its own wich for some reasons had major issues and would not export. but with my old firewire card it all works out sweet.

so if you can get your hands on another firewire card, stick it in, ohh and remember premiere likes to run on windows drivers, so in XP dont install the drivers, i think there is a readme file somewhere that says that.
and give it a go.

My PC also freezes like that. Completely locked. I have formatted so many times to try to fix the problem that my windows registry cant register because of the so many times ive done that. My pc freezes in capturing and editing.
