Hi All

I have a client that has been using MSN Explorer 6 to reference his Hotmail account. He recently upgraded to a later version (7.02) and has lost the ability to "Archive" his mail. This was actually an undocumented change made by Microsoft I later discovered.

The Archived mail folders are stored in a DBX format (the same extension as Outlook Express 5/6). I have been attempting to find a way to import these folders either in to Outlook Express or Outlook, but have not had any luck.

Has anybody ever had a go at this, or know of a way how to import MSN mail in to any standard format? Any help/input will be appreciated.

See for background on restoring MSN to MSN.

Kind regards
Johann

I am just starting the project of converting mail files stored in MSN 8 to Outlook. Did you find a way, or are you still looking?

Hi Alan

Unfortunately I did not find an easy solution. What I had to do is move all the mail in the user's inbox, sent items and other folders in to the deleted items folder from the local drive to the user's Deleted Items folder (ON HOTMAIL). The Deleted Items folder does not count towards storage limit. Thereafter I setup Outlook 2002 to connect to Hotmail, referenced the Deleted Items folder and dragged all the messages to a PST file I setup locally.

Needless to say, this job was tedious as can be and not really achievable without a broadband connection.

Kind regards
Johann
