Let me start this off by saying I have never used FoxPro.

I have an old foxpro database and I'm trying to export the information from it to an access database. Is this possible? Or, instead of going straight from one database to another, is it possible to export the foxpro infomation to, say, an excel spreadsheet which I can then import to access? I don't know anything about foxpro's exporting capabilites, so any thoughts on how to get it into access would be most appreciated.

Thank ya!

Assuming you are using 2.5 or 2.6 FoxPro DOS or Windows, there are a couple of options.
1) The EXPORT command
2) The COPY TO command
Both of these have a number of file types you can choose including XLS (Excel), delimited and SDF.

However, you don't even need FoxPro, if you have Access. It can link directly to .DBFs using the Jet engine or using the VFP ODBC driver or the VFP OLE DB provider. Once linked, you can treat them like any other Access table and tranfer the data any way you want.

The only thing to add to Rick's post above would be that you might want to consider an alternate approach.

Why step down from the functional perspective from an older Foxpro to Access?

Instead, dramatically step up in functionality (especially when compared to Access) from old Foxpro to Visual Foxpro.

Good Luck,

I haven't figured out yet what version of foxpro it is because I need to get the password from my boss, but I heard someone mumble something about 1.0. Is exporting still possible in 1.0?

As for functionality, that's really not an issue for this database. While normally I'd completely agree, basically this database is going to be an overglorified address book for 4 users and never will be anything more than that. Upgrading to foxpro's higher functionality is really overkill and therefore not worth the cost to them. But I do appreciate the thought!

hi and

another possibility for you is to simply open the foxpro database (*.dbf) in excel, and then "save as" that file to an excel file, and then go on from there.

1. start excel
2. from the excel menus, file, open
3. in the dialog box, change "file of types" to dBase Files (*.dbf)
4. find your file, and open it

5. then, from the excel menus, file, save as
6. in the dialog box, change "save as type" to Microsoft Excel Workbook (*.xls)
