Exporting data from ACCPAC

Good afternoon. Hopefully someone has a quick easy answer - and thank you in advance for any assistance.

If I'm running ACCPAC Version 6.1D (also utilizing Accpac Plus Windowing System Manager Version 6.5A), can I export data out of the program (like in ASCII or some other text file or perhaps to Excel?)

Thanks in advance for any guidance and/or instructions.

FWIW, you can export things like master files through the Housekeeping menu, but detailed transactions usually require a report.

tuba, thanks for your great tips. It appears you're somewhat of an expert when it comes to ACCPAC. The folks I work with asked if I would ask a couple more questions. First, when we print to report, will we get an ASCII type export? Is the data that comes out useable (our tech guy fears from a program this old, the data might come out as garbled or unusable). Last, if it came to it, do you ever take on outside projects (could we retain your services). It may not come to that, but they wanted me to inquire.

If you print an Accpac Plus report to file you will get a text file copy of the report, it looks the same as the report. You can write Quik Reports to create custom exports of the data. Note that Accpac Plus is obsolete and no longer supported by Accpac.

Even though I've used Accpac plus for over 20 years, I'm not really interested in supporting it anymore. My experience over the last 10 years is that any company still using it is too cheap (or broke) to pay my bills.

We're actually a law firm, and seeking information from an adverse party's software program (which happens to be ACCPAC), so this would definitely be a situation where you would be retained and paid in advance. We're not at that point, but wanted to inquire. Sounds like we should be able to get what we need without having to retain an expert. Have a great day,

The last Accpac plus work I did was 2 years ago, for a law firm, doing a bankruptcy filing. I dumped all the key financial reports to text files, and exported the master files to CSV. AFAIK, the filing went well.

I hate to be a pest, but if one of you (tuba, ettienne) have a moment and could somewhat list the steps for exporting that would be super helpful.

Are you talking about the Housekeeping Menu, or printing to file?

Press F3, Printer, Printer Destination, File...
Um that's what I think it was if I remember correctly, but it should be close.

And in regards to the Housekeeping menu, if they can't figure out how to export once they get there, then they shouldn't be using a computer. It's that simple.

Okay, I've received some data - but I don't know what they've given me. They are calling them "invoice history files" and they're a file extension .yip

What in the world did they give me? I can't even find anything telling me what .yip files are. I'm assuming these people gave me back end files directly from the ACCPAC software instead of giving me exported reports/files.

YIP" is not an Accpac file. Are you sure it's not "ZIP" renamed?

The Plus data files could be created with any extension, so .YIP is possible as a data file extension. They could have printed to file and used the same file extension, so check if it is a text file.
You could also simply ask them what they did instead of us guessing

I will definitely ask them, but if it was an ACCPAC file extension, I wanted to know what I was dealing with. Thanks!
