Hi,
I am exporting to an rpt file and sending this file by Email. Over the last three month, the file size has grown from 536KB to 4MB. It is becoming a great hassle for users to download this file. When exporting the file to Word, I receive a 23 KB file that contains the same information.
Any idea why the rpt files are big? Does it have anything to do with how Crystal packages the RPT file?

Thanks in advance,
Patrick.

If you open the exported RPT, is it saved with data? How many records are being saved?

Word only saves the output, not the underlying data. Ken Hamady, On-site/Phone Crystal Reports Training/Consulting
Quick Reference Guide to using Crystal in VB

Hi Ken,
Below is how the report size changed over time in terms
of Kilo Bytes and number of records.
Date File Size in KB Number of Records
24/07/01 539
27/07/01 794 51420
30/07/01 917 62484
31/07/01 1038 73704

30/08/01 2199 203916
04/09/01 2601 212652
02/10/01 3724 318300

There is no way that the database size has grown too much over this short period of time. We definitely need to schedule and Email reports as rpt files because in some instances users need to drill down on reports. For the current report all drill downs are supressed and still the size is growing. Any idea why is the number of records that Crystal is pulling out for this report has increased tremendously over a short period of time?

Additional information:
Version of Crystal is 7. Also, around 8 running totals are used in this report.

Thanks,
Patrick.
