Export to Excel functionality 1

Hi,
In my CE 8.5 Professional, the Export to Excel goes well, but when using the resultant Spreadsheet, some Excel functions ( especially Sorting) fail with a message that says

'this operation requires the merged cells be identically sized'...

Any experience with this, and any workarounds?

You have numerous cells that are being viewed as a single cell.

You can highlight the spreadsheet and unmerge the cells:

Format->Cells->Alignment->deselect Merge Cells

But the formatting will probably get really ugly.

I try to design reports for exporting to Excel, avoiding this problem during development by testing repeatedly.

Great response, it works fine ( and as you noted, formatting went to he**....)

I will let the report designers know that they need to remember the output to be used when formatting the report.

The document, "Exporting to Microsoft Excel" might be helpful to your report designers. It can be downloaded from:

Reports created for export to Excel are not always aesthetically pleasing viewed on screen in CR or printed out. Likewise, as you've found, reports created as nice looking printed reports often export poorly to Excel.

For reports that are created to be exported to Excel, I pretty much follow the guidelines in the referenced document and include the word "Excel" at the end of the report file name. I had to experiment a bit with some of the document's guidelines to get things formatted the way I wanted.
