Can someone give me some pointers on how to get around timing out when exporting reports?

I am trying to export a report with 4000 rows by 34 columns (22 attribute and 12 metric columns) and I continually receive an ASP timeout after about 5 minutes. I have looked through MicroStrategy's Knowledge Base and found a tech note (TN5600-071-0198) referring me to increase the ASP script timeout. This tech note described the export timeout with respect to long reports of 50,000 rows or more. My report only has 4000 rows. Granted there are a lot of columns, but asking the users to wait more than 5 minutes to export their report to Excel seems to be too much. Are there any other settings that I could look at to make the export go faster?

Thank you.

I have found that the number of columns has as much (or more) effect on export time as the number of rows.

TN5600-7X0-0276 is really helpful for this situation. I would recommend trying all of the recommendations right off the bat except for the Browser Receive Timeout (you don't want to try to make a registry change on all of your user's desktops).

The other thing to remember is that exporting to Excel with formatting takes a LOT of processing, using Excel with plain text or .csv is much quicker if you are only exporting a grid. Also, make sure you are choosing to save the file to disk instead of opening it in the browser (which takes a lot of resources on your local machine).

Hope this helps!
