Export Station Configuration CM 8.x

Hi Guys,

We are upgrading from Avaya Aura Release 8.x to 10.2. We have new hardware for release 10 and we are using new set of IPs for it. Is there a way to export stations configuration from release 8 and import to release 10? We tried using Avaya Site Administrator Export Data option but when we tried to import that data to the new CM, all the objects failed to import. Is there a better to export station configuration and import it to the newer release?
 
why not just backup and restore the xln or am I missing something?
 
Follow the CM Upgrade guide and backup then restore.
I saw the upgrade guide but it wasn't clear about users. Backup and restore will bring everything back, but in our case we have changed the IPs, Entity names, hostnames etc.
 
I would export all SIP users via SMGR as an Excel workbook that you can then edit. Be sure to assign new Communication Profile Passwords since the old ones are not retained. If you don't know what the old password was, then you'll have to log each SIP phone in manually with the new password.

For Legacy set types (H.323, Digital, and Analog) that do not have Users, Export via Elements / Communication Manager/ Endpoints / Manage Endpoints. Again, assign a new Security Code since the old is not retained. Just don't export SIP endpoints with this method as several fields are not retained correctly. That may be fixed, but the SIP Users Export works far better for SIP endpoints. you can sort out the Stations that have SIP users assigned so you don't download the information twice.

Once you have the Exports from v8, download the appropriate empty workbooks from the v10 servers and copy-paste from the v8 files into the new versions. SMGR is very picky about the import files matching the exact version of SMGR so you can't just upload the v8 workbooks.

You can then Import the v10 SIP Users under User Management / Manage Users and the Legacy sets under Communication Manager / Endpoints / Manage Endpoints.
 
Just a word of caution since all we have is a very narrow view into what you are doing and what equipment and applications you have. As soon as you mentioned entities, you imply you have SIP entities and possibly SIP endpoints. I would strongly encourage that you follow the "order of application upgrades" for your business. This order can be found in Avaya documentation but goes like this: the platforms your apps are running on ASP130 (ESXi), SIP/H.323 endpoint firmware, SMGR, ASM, etc. If you follow the order, you will not need to do what @ZeroZeroOne states although what he states is very prudent as it yields a nice manual backup and recovery mechanism should something go sideways. If you backup/restore (migrate) your CM data, your H.323 passwords will come over. When you migrate your SMGR it too will retain the SIP endpoint passwords via the data migration process.
