export format

Hi all,
Using Cr9. Sybase Backend. In my report I am trying to
use a custom formatted date field such like "yyyy/dd/mm"
After exporting to Excel 97-2000 (data only) the cell format is " yyyy/dd/mm" with a leading space in the front.
Is there a workaround for this problem.

Dates are dates in databases, Crystal and Excel. Stating that you want to export it in a different format than Excel's native format is probably the same as saying I want to export it as text.

I doubt that Crystal has the depth of export capability that allows one to set it as a DATE and then alter the display characteristics within Excel.

You should have looked (and posted) what Excel believes to be the data type, not what it looks like. Data types are everything.

Note that if you just let it default to a date the users can then format it however they like, and their regional settings on the PC should provide their usual view (though I'm not positive of the latter).

Thank you for your reply, I just want to shed more lights:

In the database: I have
log_date : String(8)
Log_time : string(4)

IN the report:
the date field is a formula where I parsed the 2 fields and create a date field using DateTime (YYYY, MM, DD, HH, MM, SS)

What is the data type in Excel after exporting?

Hi,
Excel data type after exporting is:

yyyy-mm-dd hh:mm:ss AM/PM

There is a leading space in front of the yyyy-mm-dd

That is the format, not a data type, click one of the cells and select Format->Cells to learn what Excel thinks the data type is.

If you don't add any special formatting or use a formula to change the default characteristics of the field in Crystal, Excel should then recognize it as a datetime.

I would guess that your formatting it out is causing the difficulties, try formatting it to the default.

Not sure though.
